It's that time again, when many of the designers in Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks get to talk about their block.
To visit all of the designers participating in this blog you can go to: Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Volume 3
This is my block: Stretched Star. I made it while I was playing around with my Cutting Corners template set and trying to figure out different ways of using it on precut squares. I like working with stars and wanted to make something a little different. It does contain 32 pieces in it! I don't think I would want to make a whole quilt with this block, but it does make an interesting table runner. You only need to make 3 blocks!
During the blog tour all of the designers are having prize drawings. I will be giving away 2 free issues of Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Volume 3. All you have to do is leave a comment after this blog about my block and how much you would like the current issue and you will be eligible! I will also have a drawing for a charm square packet for anyone that visits my website Gateway Quilts & Stuff to see my new kits and tells me which is their favorite kit (no you do not have to purchase it!)
I am participating in the May Shophop and will have some specials all this month so be sure to visit my website often.
Stay tuned for a long awaited narration of my first large group to visit St. Louis Star Inn for an extended stay! I plan to post photos and tell everyone all about it. It was a wonderful experience for not only the quilters who stayed, but also for me. I will also share my trip to the AQS show in Paducah. It always gets my creative juices flowing!
Remember, always do what you love and love what you do. Toby

Nice block. Congrats on being chosen for the book.
I can hardly wait to get my hands on this magazine. I love your block and can't wait to try it out.
I'm liking the "stretch" part of this block --- it does change some of the usual proportions --- hmmm --- wonder how it would look on point or with groupings and lattices --- sets the mind to wondering.
I am amazed that designers can still find new star blocks to design. This one looks especially versatile.
Nice variation on the star block. I just love stars, they make great quilts.
I love star blocks Nice one Thank You
This is a great block to use for a table runner. I can see lots of possibilities. Thank you for sharing.

32 pieces? I've done blocks with 44 pieces that were 6.5". Thanks for sharing your variation of a Star. I like stars too. Hope I'm a Winner!
I like your block. I saw the magazine in the grocery store yesterday, but didn't buy it because I was hoping to win one. Thanks for the chance.
Interesting new spin on the star. Have to agree that at 32 pieces, a table runner or wall hanging would be the way to go. REALLY hoping I win a copy of this issue! Thank you for the opportunity
love the colors and the pattern of Natasha.
What an interesting block! It does work really well as a table runner -- and I love to make table runners!
I could not find a spot to comment on your kits at your website. Hpe here is skay! I liked Ara Bella best, but Yin Yang came in a very close second!
First, great block! Second, I love the Curve Appeal Kit. Third, I got a bonus bunny from your site. Thanks for a chance to win!
I love the 'wood look' version of your block. Cool! I NEED this magazine to ooh and ahh over!
I had to take a good hard llok at your block to see that yes, it really is square! Your use of larger and smaller triangles makes it look like a rectangle! I lvoe blocks that create illusions! Great job!

I love your block and can't wait to see the magazine. I think my favorite kit is Civil War Sampler.

Some great stuff on your web site. I think I like Curve appeal the most but I do like the civil war sampler too.
I love Star blocks too and your block is very pretty. It would make a lovely 4th of July table runner in red, white and blue. Thanks for the chance to win a copy of the magazine.
I love your Arabella kit. I love black and white quilts. Thanks for the chance to win fabric.
Love your block, hard to believe that it has so many pieces to it! Hands down I absolutely love your Yin Yang kit. Congrats on being in Vol 3 and thanks for the giveaway.
I'd like to make a tablerunner like yours, and in those colors, too. Tell you what, if I dont win the book, why not just send me yours?
What a great block. I love how it makes a runner.
As for kits - its the Civil War sampler for me! Gorgeous. Thanks for a chance to win fabric and the magazine. I love, love, love the creative ideas the magazine provides.
Love your block. I think it would be a great one to use up some scraps!
Not sure where to leave this one, so I'll leave it here -- I really like the Liberty Square kit on your store website.
Love your block. Stars are my favorite. I would love to win 100 Blocks Vol3.
Love your block. Thanks for the giveaway.
Your block is great. I wish I had your talent. I also would rather just make a wall hanging or maybe a table runner but don't think a whole quilt.

Judy
I would love to win a current copy of Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Volumne 3! And I love your Table runner!
pojeda@embarqmail.com
I agree with you about the table runner. Very interesting block and does look nice. Good job on it!
That is a very cool block. I really like the secondary design when you put 2 blocks together.
And you have some great kits, but my favorite is the Curve Appeal. Great color combo there!
This is an awesome block because of that center area. It would be awesome to create, as you said, a table runner and already I can picture it using holiday fabrics. And in that center area that's got so much area it would be perfect for something from my machine embroidery designs. Great work.
I cannot wait for this issue to go on sale. I missed Issue 1 but did manage to get Issue 2 although not without A LOT of driving. None of the stores around our area carried the magazine. I was SO disappointed. Luckily my husband is a wonderful guy and drives an hour away from our area to work daily so he went to a bookstore near his job and got Issue 2 for me. I am scared we'll be doing the same thing with Issue 3 but that won't be necessary if I'm lucky enough to win this issue.
I like your stretched star block, Toby! And enjoy your quilt patterns in magazines.
Love the block. Great variation. Hoping to win.
Novel block idea. It looks awesome in a table runner!
From what I'm seeing on this blog hop, this issue is a "must buy." I really like your block!
Love the stretched star block. Really really want to win a copy of the new 100 Quilt Blocks mag. And congrats on being included in the 3rd issue.
Your block is wonderful and I love the table runner. I hope to win the copy.
I like your block and the colors you used to make it. I really would like to own the #3 of the trilogy so far. Thanks!
very fun block. I can see this in a red/white/blue theme, with the center being red and white stripes.

Love your block; would really love to win the book! And the charm pack also - love the Civil War Sampler!
I've always liked stars in quilts. Love your block. Congrats on being in the book!
I really like the cool colors you chose for the Curve Appeal kit--great for summer. As for your block, I want to try some different color schemes-maybe brights with white or black.
I visited your website and would pick Marching home!
This looks like a perfect scrappy block. Got to try it.
I love your block and would love to win a copy of the magazine so that I can make the table runner. Your Pointing the Way quilt kit is my favorite.
Toby, can you believe that one of the quilters had a challenge NOT to make a star quilt in 2011? I love stars... Sounds like you have lots goint on. Sandi
I love stars and your block is a great new take on it, 32 pieces sounds like a lot, but your table runner is a cute project.
So far I have seen lots of great blocks on the blog hop and I hope that I can win one of the magazines.
Your block is great, I'd love to win the magazine so I could make it.
I also meant to say that I love your Yin and Yang quilt design.
Your block would be a great way to highlight a packet of charm squares. I can see the inside of each star being different. Oh, yes I would love to win a copy of this book! Thanks for the chance.
I visited your website and really like the Civil War Sampler quilt kit using the Ladies 1 collection. Maybe it's the yellow combined with the piecing variety.
Super cute block! Congrats on making it into the magazine! I can't wait to get this new magazine. I loved the last one to pieces!
This is a great variation of a star to add to a quilt that is doing all sorts of star blocks!
I'd love a copy of Vol. 3!!
Thanks.
The outside border in the block really dominates once it is put with other blocks. Interesting. Fun to see a 'modern' block!
i love your block - it's really pretty in the reproduction style fabrics, but i can picture it being just as stunning in bright, modern, designer fabrics.
i can't wait to get my hands on a copy of this issue, so i'd love to win one!
oops! i posted without telling you my favourite kit! honestly, i can't decide - i love AraBella, but i love Curve Appeal too!
